Your future: mentoring while you study

Mentors and mentees social event

Did you know that mentees are promoted five times more often* than those without a mentor?

We’ve just launched the Career Lab Graduate Mentoring Programme, a brand-new employability opportunity that matches current undergraduate students (mentees) with recent graduates (mentors). The programme includes monthly meetings for insights, one-to-one careers advice and guidance over six months.

Students can use our global network of Sussex Alumni who have volunteered to act as mentors to provide insight into life and work after University. Student mentees receive training, learning resources and ongoing support throughout the programme.

Prospective mentees will receive a portfolio of available mentors and be asked to select the top three they wish to be matched with. The Career Lab team will then match up mentors and mentees based on this information.

According to Forbes and The Huffington Post, 79% of Millennials see mentoring as crucial to career success. Programmes such as this have been shown to boost minority representation at management level as well as promotion and retention rates.

All participants will be invited to join an exclusive online community group on Sussex Connect. You’ll be able to network, share ideas and receive reminders and meeting templates to help guide your conversations with your mentor. After successfully completing the programme, you’ll receive recognition of their involvement and an invitation to a Mentoring Network event at the end of the year.

Interested in taking part? Sign up on the Career Lab form.

Applications deadline: 18 October 2021, 5pm

We’re also organising an online networking and training workshop on National Mentoring Day: Wednesday 27 October 1pm to 3pm.
