The Great Escape: apply for a festival placement

The Great Escape festival logo

The Great Escape Festival is a music festival that takes over Brighton for one long weekend each year in May, with stages and venues across Brighton – including a festival village on the seafront. The festival showcases the best up-and-coming talent in the music industry and the programme features artists across a massive range of musical genres.

This year, in the festival’s 15th anniversary edition, the University of Sussex is working in partnership with The Great Escape and has secured 40 guaranteed volunteer work placements for Sussex students within the festival’s well-established volunteering programme. These opportunities are perfect for students who are keen to see how a festival is managed and want to get their foot in the door of the industry.

Students volunteering at the festival have a fantastic chance to network with industry professionals, get access to the event and some exclusive after show parties, and each will be given a TGE crew t-shirt.

Volunteering at The Great Escape covers multiple aspects of festival management. The placements cover a range of roles from technical and production to venue rep assistants, logistics, branding and sponsorship support. Roles include working with the Convention Programme, liaising with the venue team, assisting with festival branding and also helping the running of conference panels. Roles within the Event Support Crew will include helping to run the stage, assisting with guest lists and learning about backline, live audio and lighting.

More detailed information is on The Great Escape website. There’s also a dedicated volunteering Facebook group you can join.

The application portal is open now and it’s a good idea to apply as soon as possible.
