Find out where to stay while you search for private-sector accommodation.

Temporary accommodation

If you are not offered a place to live in University-managed accommodation, it is important that you try to secure housing in the private-rented sector before your studies start.

If you are planning on finding somewhere to live after your arrival, you will need to book into short-term hotel accommodation, so you have somewhere to stay while you complete your search. Although the time it takes to find accommodation in the private sector can vary, we recommend that you budget for at least six weeks of temporary accommodation after your arrival and start your search as soon as possible.

As a popular tourist destination, short-term accommodation in Brighton & Hove can be expensive. Preferential rates are available for local hotels and guest houses for Sussex staff and students, but you may find cheaper rates if you stay in hotels outside of the city, within commuting distance of campus.

Places to stay

See a list of options outside the city below. These hotels are not endorsed by the University of Sussex.

Eastbourne

Worthing and Lancing

Haywards Heath, Hurstpierpoint and Henfield

You may be able to find shorter-term contract options on SpareRoom, or via AirBnB and Openrent.

Accommodation for families

We do not have any University-managed accommodation for families available, and cannot provide emergency accommodation.

For short-term housing, AirBnB and Openrent have several options listed for families, but we would recommend that you look outside Brighton & Hove to find the best family options.
