One World Week is back this year and will take place from Monday 14 to Sunday 20 March 2022!
One World Week is a series of events that aim to share cultures and traditions specific to a community with the broader student body. The week is an opportunity to:
- show appreciation for other cultures,
- cultivate belonging for students,
- raise awareness of global issues,
- and highlight international opportunities for our diverse Sussex students and staff.
Events from past years have included Holi, cultural quizzes, calligraphy classes, international games nights, language lessons and cooking classes.
Gurpreet Raulia, one of the members of the Sussex Sikh Society that organised the langar on campus last year, said that "it was incredible to see different communities come together," and she's looking forward to rerunning the langar again: "with the success of the last event, I can imagine how much bigger and greater it can be now."
Gurpreet also said that the Students' Union had been very supportive. The Students' Union has £7000 of funding to support any events that students would like to organise for One World Week. Additionally, the Union also offers support organising the events, including booking venues, equipment, staffing, promotion and more.
If you have an idea and would like to run an event for One World Week, please fill out the application form. While there is no formal deadline, the funding will be allocated on a first come first serve basis, so you're advised to submit your application as soon as possible.
