Worried about an essay or report? Not sure how to structure an argument? Want to improve your grades? Need more confidence in your academic writing?
As part of the Royal Literary Fund’s Fellowship Scheme (RLF), the Library hosts two professional writers who offer free one-to-one tutorials during term-time for students wanting to improve their writing.
From Foundation to PhD and across all subjects, the RLF Fellows can help with any aspect of the writing process, including planning, drafting, constructing an argument and editing. They are able to comment on the writing style of work in progress, allowing you to improve your work before submission.
The RLF Fellows know how daunting writing can feel! They will help you develop an approach that works for you, enabling you to strengthen your voice and ideas on the page.
To book an appointment, email either Nikki Sheehan, Richard Madden, or Alison MacLeod:
- Monday or Tuesday appointments: alison.macleod@rlfeducation.org.uk
- Wednesday or Thursday appointments: richard.madden@rlfeducation.org.uk
- Friday appointments: nikki.sheehan@rlfeducation.org.uk
The RLF Fellows are located on the top floor of the Library but they can also offer online appointments.
Please note: If English is not your first language, specialist one-to-one tutorials are available from English Language for Academic Study.
You can book to see the Fellow just once, or return for a subsequent tutorial if you want, subject to availability. In order to ensure other students can book appointments when they need them, please do not book to see more than one RLF Fellow. Appointments can be booked up to 28 days in advance.
RLF Writing resources are also available to students online.
Check out the new Skills Hub for more writing workshops and resources.
