Ways to reach your potential at Sussex

Whether you’re a returning student or brand new to university, you’ll want to make the most of your time here.
At Sussex we have everything you need to excel in your studies, make friends, learn new skills and – most importantly – have fun!
Here are some opportunities for you to get started with.
Succeeding in your studies
The Library is a great place to find reference material, book a study space and join a workshop. The Library is open 9am-11pm Monday to Friday, and 10am-5pm at weekends.
The Skills Hub provides you with everything you need to improve your study skills and excel in your work.

Students' Union
Your Students’ Union is a democratic, student-focused organisation, offering plenty of opportunities to make the most of your time at Sussex.
The Students’ Union provides:

Hundreds of sports clubs and societies, with something for every interest

Opportunities to make change, through volunteering and campaigns

A Buddy Scheme to help new students settle in

A range of events and activities to join throughout the year

Skill building opportunities, such as the Language Café

Free, confidential advice and support

A chance to represent your fellow students by running as a Student Rep.

Get rewarded for your co-curricular activities
The Spirit of Sussex Award celebrates your co-curricular and voluntary achievements. By taking part in different activities, such as part-time work or societies, you can gain points towards a Bronze, Silver or Gold Spirit of Sussex Award, which will be presented to you at graduation.
New students – you can log your first five points by completing five steps on your induction checklist! Log into the Spirit of Sussex Award platform to get started.
Interested in finding out more about the Spirit of Sussex Award? The team will be out on campus during welcome week, offering you a chance to win a variety of gifts and vouchers. Visit them in the Student Centre atrium on Monday 25 September 11am-3pm and Thursday 28 September 11am-3pm, where you can spin the wheel to win a variety of prizes!
Careers and Entrepreneurship services
Sussex offers a range of jobs and careers support for students.
Head to the Jobs and careers page on the Student Hub, where you’ll find the latest support and opportunities for job searching, internships and placements, as well as career support and specific information for working as an international student.
Have an idea for your own business? Find support on our Entrepreneurship page, from workshops and events to funding advice and one-on-one appointments.
Become a Student Ambassador
Student Ambassadors are current students who provide a warm and friendly face for prospective students.
There are a range of Student Ambassador jobs and you can choose a role based on the opportunities that interest you. These are all flexible, paid positions and provide a great opportunity to meet new people, build skills and add valuable experiences to your CV.
Recruitment is now open for the following roles:
Widening Participation Student Ambassador

These Ambassadors work with school students and mature learners, who may experience challenges in accessing University and are currently underrepresented in Higher Education, including:
- students from BAME backgrounds
- refugees and asylum seekers
- students from low-income households
- disabled students
- students estranged from their families
- young carers

Applications are welcome from all students at Sussex, however we particularly encourage applications from students from these backgrounds.

The team are looking for 30 new Ambassadors. Find out more about the role and apply online.
International Student Ambassador

This role is open to current international students, who help share experiences with prospective international students interested in studying at Sussex.

The role could include social media work, giving campus tours, representing our International Office at virtual or in-person events, and more.

The team are looking for 40 new Ambassadors. The deadline for applications is 16 October and you can apply online.
UK Recruitment Student Ambassador

This role is open to undergraduate and postgraduate students, who will share their experiences and knowledge of the University with the next generation of Sussex students.

The role involves campus tours, participating in question and answer (Q&A) sessions, social media campaigns and more.
