Brighton Festival has several free and low-cost events in the programme this year. This is the perfect opportunity for you to take a well-deserved break from studying and have fun on a budget!
Here are a few events you might enjoy.
100 Miles of String, Royal Pavilion Gardens (FREE)
An interactive artwork and outdoor installation which will change and grow over the course of Brighton Festival. It will include large structures to weave in and out of and devices for looking and photographing the changing environment.
This is on throughout the whole Festival, every day between 10am and 8pm and there’s no need to book.
Festival of Ideas: Bird Bath Installation, St Peter's Church, Preston Park (FREE)
Bird Bath transforms beautiful buildings into restorative spaces by inviting you to pause, rest and ‘bathe’ in the sound of local birdsong. Created by meditator and broadcaster Alistair Appleton (Mindsprings) and musician and ecoacoustician Alice Eldridge (University of Sussex).
This event is on between 5 - 12 May during opening hours.
Ooze Machines, Phoenix Art Space (FREE)
Ooze Machines features an immersive multi-channel video, new glass and 2D works and a playable experience. Both seductive and repulsive, slime is a recurring motif throughout the show.
This event is on between 4 May - 30 June, during opening hours.
Born and Bread, ACCA (pay what you decide)
A joyous, funny, hearty meal cooked up with stories from across Brighton. From Bangkok to Bevendean, Whitehawk to Mexico City, the stories paint a picture of the city from a perspective never seen before. A love-letter to the past, a challenge to the future, revealing who we are today.
Tickets are still available for Sunday 19 May, 7pm. Tickets are “pay what you decide” and include a bowl of soup and a bread roll. Book your place.
Closer to My Dreams, ACCA (FREE)
Weaving together poetry, rap and hip hop choreography, the performance follows two young, black brothers from inner-city Manchester as they build friendships and relationships and try to succeed in the face of adversity.
This event is taking place outside the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) on the following dates:
Fri 10 May, 12.30pm and 4pm
Sat 11 May, 2.30pm and 6.30pm
