As the academic year comes to a close, we’re reflecting on some of the most memorable and insightful contributions from the Sussex Student Blog. From summer experiences to academic advice, career journeys to creative achievements, students have shared their stories with honesty, humour, and heart.
Summer fun
Graduations are always a highlight of the summer, and your student blog joined the fun with an impromtu interview with Dr. Bendangyangerla Imchen as she received her PhD on her time at Sussex, the challenges and the highlights. We also heard from two Ukrainian students who were welcomed at Sussex for a summer of studying, and social and cultural events thanks to funding from the Sussex Fund.
Preparing for the academic year
As the new academic year approached, students offered practical advice for those preparing to arrive or return to Sussex, from Similoluwa’s tips on returning to study after long academic break to Tugce’s insiders guide to living in student housing.
Making the most of your university experience
Throughout the year, students also explored how to make the most of university life beyond the classroom, whether that be joining a society or a sports club, making friends or finding fun activities that are right for you.
Career development
Career development was another key theme this year. Whether that means finding work whilst you are here, or gaining valuable real world experience through a student consultancy, an internship, or even a placement year.
Our incredible students
Finally, we celebrated some of the incredible things Sussex students have been up to. From attending conferences and curating exhibitions to the journey from Foundation year to PhD researcher at Sussex, these stories showcased the creativity, curiosity, and ambition of our student community.
If all of this sounds like a lot to take in, you are not alone. One of the year’s most relatable posts, offered a gentle reminder that it is okay to take things one step at a time (and revisit old blog posts at your leisure!)
