In her public talk, Professor Jessica Horst presents her career, research and impact on child word learning.
“Language is vital for many aspects of human cognition and effective communication. A major challenge in acquiring language is learning the meanings of words.”
Professor Horst’s theoretical insights and methods have influenced the area of child word learning – shifting the focus from children’s immediate actions to what they are remembering over time.
“In my research, I often question what we think we already know. This has led me to undercover some surprising effects and forge new methods for investigating what children do, and do not, know about their first language.”
