Posted on behalf of: Student Communications
Last updated: Wednesday, 23 February 2022
Join us from 28 February to 4 March at a range of events around Sustainability at Sussex, in partnership with the Students’ Union’s Climate Justice Week.
From helping to keep green spaces free of litter, to hearing student proposals for tackling climate change, you can get involved in making Sussex more sustainable!
Monday 28 February: Sustainable Fashion Collective Thrift Fair 10am-3:30pm
Since winning Pitch for the Planet in 2021, Sustainable Fashion Collective have been working hard to collect and redistribute clothes, bedding, and food to help prevent waste. Now they are putting on a thrift fair event for Sustainable Sussex week.
Come down to Mandela Hall from 10am-3:30pm on Monday to look for vintage finds, save money, and prevent good clothes from going to waste!
Wednesday 2 March: Hill Clean with Surfers Against Sewage
We’re lucky to have green spaces across Brighton and Hove where we can relax and meet with friends. For Sustainable Sussex Week, we will be taking out litter pickers to one of these areas and working together to keep it clean!
So, register here to come along, meet other students, and help us keep our green spaces clear of litter.
Thursday 3 March: Recycling Info Content Creation Competition
We will be launching a new competition in Sustainable Sussex week to reward students who can produce effective content to help their fellow students reduce the amount of waste that they produce and help increase recycling rates.
There are three cash prizes up for grabs for the best entries. If you win, your work will also be promoted by the University and you will have a lasting record of your creativity and innovation that you can reference and share to help with future employability.
Find out more about how to enter here.
Friday 4 March: Pitch for the Planet 2022 and Climate Leader Prizes Event 09:30am
At Pitch for the Planet, you’ll hear students will present their proposals for tackling climate change, with the hope of winning a share of £20,000 of funding and a place on the Sussex Accelerator scheme to help turn their sustainability ideas into reality.
Register for the event to be inspired by their ideas, as well as hear from our entrepreneur judges, including Sussex Entrepreneur in Residence Sarah Osterholzer and Sussex Alumni Lucy Hughes.
