Did you know that your Students’ Union is run by students? We bang on about it a lot, but it’s because it’s true. Every big decision made at the SU is made by elected students.
Applying to be a member of our leadership network not only gives you invaluable experience in leadership, community organising and governance, but also allows you to make tangible change at Sussex and in the wider community.
Union Council is the highest decision-making space at your Students’ Union and acts kind of like the SU’s parliament. Council is responsible for setting the long-term political direction of the SU - what campaigns we get involved in, what stances we take, and how we operate. It is the main place where students can discuss what they want Sussex to look like and how the SU can make that happen. If you have ideas for how the Students’ Union can improve campus life, nominate yourself to join Union Council on our elections webpage.
Are you interested in getting involved in anti-racism work at the Students’ Union?
We have a vacancy open for our BAME officer. Our BAME Officer sits on our Executive Committee and is responsible for making sure that the Students’ Union is actively anti-racist. They are given a budget and access to resources to plan events, run campaigns, and organise initiatives to make the lives of Sussex students of colour better. It’s an incredible opportunity for anyone interested in making a difference and combating racism through the Students’ Union. You can apply here before 10 October 2022.
There are nearly 500 elected roles open this autumn, so there truly is something for everybody - this article only scratches the surface. Whether you are an international student, interested in sustainability, or want to make change within your school, there is an opportunity for you to build the Sussex that you’d like to see!
Nominations for all positions close on 10 October 2022 at 9am.
