The Spirit of Sussex Award is open to all students at the University of Sussex. Check out the award platform.
But, don’t just take our word for it! Hear from some of your fellow students and alumni about how the Spirit of Sussex Award has benefited them...
Shadrack, BA International Relations student
Shadrack has made significant contributions to the Ambassadorship & Mentoring category having worked as a Widening Participation (WP) Ambassador.
"University to me is more about belonging. I've been given an opportunity that my parents never had. I've managed to fit in at Sussex as an international student and there is a plethora of things that Sussex has to offer. I work as a WP student ambassador and peer mentor. It's thrilling to provide and educate students on the possibilities of accessing university no matter what background you have. The Spirit of Sussex Award reminds me of my main goal which is to keep working and helping others.”
Bruna, BA International Relations & Development student
Bruna’s exceptional work in the Training & Development category has allowed her to develop new transferable skills from her co-curricular achievements.
“Logging my points with the Spirit of Sussex Award allowed me to realise how much I have done and achieved so far in my academic progress. It makes me really happy and proud of myself. Sometimes it’s so easy to forget how far we’ve come and grown so I am glad SoSA is there to remind me of all the activities I participated outside my course.”
Ollie, Brighton & Sussex Medical School (BSMS) alumnus
Ollie, who completed his degree in 2023 was heavily involved in the Society & Media Category. Ollie also won the Exceptional Leader prize at the Undergraduate Celebration Event in 2023, for his outstanding contributions as President of the BSMS Medic Revue and BSMS MedSoc whilst he was a student.
“For me, the Spirit of Sussex award is a lovely opportunity to reflect on the relationships and celebrate the successes of my time as a society president. The thing I loved most about my work with societies is the opportunity to work with so many talented, brilliant people. It was a real privilege to develop friendships and be inspired by the committees I worked with.”
