One World Week: What's on

This week (11-17 March) is One World Week! This is an annual series of fun events promoting the aims of One World Sussex - celebrating the diversity of cultures in our community here at Sussex.
One World Week is run collaboratively by the Students’ Union and the University of Sussex, and aims to share cultures, raise awareness of global issues and highlight international opportunities for our diverse Sussex community.
It’s an opportunity to engage, educate and entertain - from raising awareness of global concerns through lectures, to celebrating cultural festivals, One World Week showcases the best of our campus community spirit and events are open to all students.
Here are some of the events you can get involved in over the comings days!
Monday 11 March
Chamber Choir One World Week concert, 6.30pm-7.15pm, Meeting House chapel
Embrace campus community spirit through a celebration of music from around the globe!
Tuesday 12 March
One World Week: One Rice Battle Pop-Up, 12pm-3pm, Eat Central
In this battle of four different rices from around the world, there can only be one winner! The winning dish will be served outside Eat Central.
Nigerian Society: The need for Cultural Identity in a Globalised World, 2pm-6pm, Meeting House
Networking opportunities, dance and games are some of the side attractions, whil enjoying world-acclaimed jollof rice.
Palestine Culture Night, 6pm-9pm, Falmer House Common Room
Showcase of Palestinian Culture through food, arts and music. An opportunity to learn about Palestine's culture and heritage.
Wednesday 13 March
An introduction to the Romani language with Juice Vamosi, 12pm-1.30pm, Zoom
Juice Vamosi, Language Consultant and founder of Roma charity Kasko San will explore key words, concepts and ideas in the Romani language and culture in this virtual session.
Sri Lankan Dal pop-up at The Veg Bowl, 12pm-3pm, The Veg Bowl, Arts C
Instead of it's usual offering, The Veg Bowl will be serving up delicious, heart warming bowls of coconut dal using a trusted Sri Lankan recipe.
UMOJA: A One World Week Silent Disco, 7pm-11pm, Room 76
A DJ night featuring three channels and three local BAME female DJs, spinning an eclectic and diverse range of genres including afrobeats, R&B, pop-punk, hip-hop, dance hall and more!
Friday 15 March
One World : One Dance Sound System Session, 6pm-11pm, Falmer House
An evening of world fusion music from Sussex Affiliated DJs including Electro Bollywood, Latin Funk, Afrobeats, Reggae and Dub-Steppas. £3 donation-based tickets will be going to The Amos Trust who is doing grassroots work on the ground in Palestine.
