Are you passionate about making a difference and building strong connections within your academic community? Becoming a Student Rep at the University of Sussex is a fantastic opportunity to ensure your voice and the voices of your peers are heard.
What is a Student Rep?
Manasi explains what the Student Rep scheme is:
Student Reps are your voice on academic related issues. They act as the link between the student body and course conveners to make sure that you are receiving an education that works for you. Student Reps cover all issues that affect your academic experience.
We have over 400 reps across campus who work on making change for you. Reps have made sure that your assessment deadlines are not overwhelming, helped decolonise your curriculum, and improved accessibility and study spaces in buildings across campus.
What are the benefits of being a rep?
Student Rep Bipsan tells us what he’s learnt in his role:
There are loads of benefits of volunteering your time to the Student Rep Scheme including:
- Having the ear of the University so you can positively influence policies and enhance the academic and social environment for all students.
- The scheme offers a training programme that develops valuable skills like leadership and communication, boosting your employability.
- Paid opportunities, including the option to stand for election as a committee rep. Find out more about the different rep roles here.
- Multiple socials throughout the year to connect and network with your fellow students helping make the University better.
