What’s your favourite spot on campus? We took to Instagram to ask students just that and 130 of you responded with a delightful mix of study nooks, social hubs, and quiet hideaways. From bustling bars to the great outdoors, our campus is full of remarkable spaces.
Your top study spaces
Several of you gave a shout out to the Student Centre, a great place to study and also your first port of call for information and support. But it was the Library that got more of your votes than any other place on campus. Whether it’s the bustling main floors or the quiet study rooms, there’s a spot for everyone. One of you even sent the coordinates for their favourite desk!
For those in the know, the Library Basement also got a couple of specific mentions with it’s recently refurbished wellbeing area that’s great if you ever need to bring your kids to campus and for grown-ups who need a break from the hustle and bustle of the main floor. Other popular spaces for those that were looking to get away from it all included The Meeting House and that one real cosy spot in Pevensey 1.
We love that some of you have favourite buildings for lectures too. Shoutouts to Freeman, Jubilee and Chichester 1 here! Meanwhile, some of you prefer to get more hands-on in the Product Design Studio and Innovation Lab.
Bars and Cafes
We are spoilt for choice when it comes to great places to eat and drink on campus.
Falmer Bar emerged as the top choice for many of you to unwind after a long day of study, with Room 76 around the corner in Falmer House also getting a lot of love.
Some of you prefer not to stray too far from your halls, with Northfield Bar proving another popular hangout.
We can understand why the new look EAT Central is quickly gaining popularity for lunch on campus. Whilst the Botanical Café at the Business School and ACCA Café proving popular for those looking for a quieter spot or just to grab a coffee.
Finally, who doesn’t love pizza 24/7 from the pizza vending machine?
Getting outdoors
For many of you, it’s getting outdoors on campus that really makes you smile. Whether that’s grabbing lunch under the trees in Library Square, or getting out into the downs in Stanmer Park.
The Roots community garden is special for several of you and there were also mentions for the sunset from East slope and the bunnies hopping around by Norwich House.
We also loved hearing about your favourite benches, whether you prefer to sip your coffee near Dhaba café, take five near the Shawcross Building or Meeting House, or spend some time contemplating the lily pond in the courtyard between Arts A and B.
Never leaving bed
Whilst a couple of the fitness enthusiasts amongst you voted for the fantastic Sussex Sports Centre as your favourite place, we also got a few people living on campus that prefer to stay in bed!
Meanwhile, the wormhole in the maths department also got a name check and one of you even has a favourite carpark (maybe that’s a whole future article!)
Finally, our respect goes to the person that refused to tell us their favourite spot, because they don’t need a crowd. Fair enough.
