Update Monday 12 February: Sussex Police report that their investigation into the incident has concluded. The conclusion was that there appeared to be no malicious intent and a community resolution has been implemented.

A report was made to University Security earlier today that led to police being called to campus. Given the nature of the report it was a standard police decision to deploy an armed response. Police subsequently left campus.
We recognise there were also two significant events today and that there are concerns in the community that these were related to the police presence. However, we can confirm that this is not the case and the police presence was unrelated to either today’s on campus event or protest.
