Complete this form if you are a continuing student who needs University-managed housing because of a long-term condition.

How to apply

You should read our guidance on housing for continuing students before you submit an application.

Important: The deadline to apply for continuation of housing on health grounds is 30 April. We cannot consider late applications.

Giving valid reasons

In the “More information” section, you’ll need to explain why your disability means you need University-managed accommodation and how this will help you.

These are unlikely to be considered by the Continuation of Housing Panel [PDF 133KB] as valid reasons:

  • being near to services on campus, because all services (including the doctors in the Health Centre) can talk to you on the phone or online
  • not being able to use public transport, if other options (such as walking and cycling) are available
  • having flatmates to help manage your disability (such as by giving you medication), because this is not a safe or reasonable way to manage a disability.

You will get a confirmation email after completing the form.

Approved applications

If your application is approved by the Continuation of Housing Panel [PDF 133KB] you will be notified in writing. This will be as soon as possible after the Panel has met, but is likely to be in or around late May or early June. You will then receive your offer of accommodation in July.

A check will be run by Housing Services at the end of the academic year to ensure that:

  • you do not have any rent outstanding (or a history of late or non-payment)
  • you have not received at any time a “Notice to Quit” University-managed accommodation
  • you have not had a Tenancy Warning Notice for breaches of your licence to occupy University-managed accommodation, such as a written first, second or final warning from Housing Services for having banned items in the residence
  • you have not had a Level 1 or above disciplinary outcome
  • there have not been material breaches by you of the terms of the licence to occupy University-managed accommodation, such as non-payment of rent or subletting the room.

If you pass this check, you can take up your offer of University accommodation.

If you do not pass this check, you will be notified and the offer of University accommodation will be withdrawn.

Unsuccessful applications

If your application is refused, you will be notified in writing as soon as possible.

You will be given advice for renting in the private sector.
