The Sussex Lectures promote our excellent research and teaching, and provide opportunities for alumni, friends and our wider community to celebrate the work at the University.
Why Histories Matter
The lecture will focus on how histories have always been contested.
How do we understand what becomes the orthodox narratives?
How can these be challenged and the work of decolonising the discipline be done?
Examples will be drawn from the histories of race and slavery, in Britain and the Caribbean.
Guest speaker: Catherine Hall, Emerita Professor of Modern British Social and Cultural History at University College London, and Sussex Honorary Graduate.
Bramber House, Level 3

This is a free, open lecture – everyone is welcome, but numbers are limited.
Refreshments will be provided.
