Join us to help plant a brand-new Miyawaki-inspired micro forest at the University of Sussex and be part of a hands-on day of positive climate action.
Here at Sussex, we have an ambitious goal of setting aside 42% of our land for nature, going beyond the UK government’s commitment to manage 30% of land for nature by 2030. This microforest planting day is one way we’re turning that ambition into action.
Using a Miyawaki-inspired planting technique, we'll be planting native trees densely, where these forests grow up to ten times faster than conventional planting, creating rich habitats for wildlife while capturing more carbon.
What to Expect
-
Work alongside students, staff, and volunteers to plant a wide range of native tree species
-
Guided tree planting with friendly, expert support
-
Plant alongside the Dream for Trees charity and supporting barristers
-

A relaxed, welcoming atmosphere - bring friends, family and enjoy a day of planting native trees on campus
Why Join?
By taking part, you’ll help create a living legacy on campus — supporting wildlife, capturing carbon, and shaping a greener, healthier space for future generations to enjoy.
Come get stuck in, meet like-minded people, and begin something that will keep growing long after the event. For the rest of your time as a student and beyond, watch the trees you've planted grow alongside yourself, tangible examples of intentional, healthy life.
This event is funded and supported by the legal profession through Dream for Trees, a charity founded by leading barristers and dedicated to restoring nature and inspiring positive environmental action.
Planting location: By the University entrance at the A27 underpass to Falmer Station.
