The Brighton Marathon are looking for staff and students to join the volunteer team for this year’s Brighton Marathon. As a thank you, everyone who signs up to the University of Sussex volunteer team will be entered into a ballot to win one of two free places in the Brighton Marathon 2027.
Brighton Marathon Weekend is a vibrant, city‑wide celebration of running. It brings together the Marathon, 10K and family‑friendly Brighton Miles event - and it simply wouldn’t happen without incredible volunteers.
The event takes place on Sunday 12 April 2026.
You’ll be representing the Sussex Community, have the opportunity to cheer on thousands of runners, and help create an unforgettable experience for everyone involved. Our group role for the day is Box Crossing. You can find more information about this at the bottom of the page.
On arrival, you’ll be kitted out with a T-shirt and fleece jacket (yours to keep) along with a packed lunch and a clear role briefing. After the event, you’ll be sent a digital certificate to celebrate your contribution.
If you are interested in volunteering, all you need to do is register for an account, and you will be allocated a shift shortly after. You will be notified once your shift has been allocated, and you can view this on your account.
Register here by Friday 3 April.
University of Sussex – Role on the Day
Box Crossing 10 & 11
Location: https://w3w.co/myself.excuse.splash
Timings: 07:45-16:30
Shift description: In this role, you’ll be out on the course at a box crossing, a key point that keeps the event flowing! You’ll direct participants to one side while guiding spectators safely across the other. It’s fast-paced, interactive, and vital to the event. Put yourself at the centre of the action!
We have a limited number of spaces for our group role allocation. If, when you sign up, you are allocated a different role, this is because the group spaces have reached capacity. However, the marathon team will try their best to group as many people together.
Please note, London Marathon Events Ltd organise the Brighton Marathon, so the sign-up form and contact emails may mention London Marathon, but rest assured, you're signing up to volunteer at the Brighton Marathon.
