Abstract:
The hard-to-abate sectors refer to industries in which emissions reduction is not readily possible via the adoption of renewable energy sources (e.g., solar, wind) and electrification. For these, a portfolio of cross-cutting solutions is required to address process emissions. These sectors can further be separated into stationary (under Paris Agreement) and mobile (under IMO and ICAO scope) emissions sources. In this talk, I present an overview of my PhD thesis research, first discussing this fragmented context, then exploring the geographical implications of this challenge, and finally presenting a path to operationalise my scholarly findings among practitioners.
