Did you know you are building a valuable network through meeting people and making friends on your course, through societies, sports and other aspects of student life?
As you progress in your studies and think about future career or further study options, it can be helpful to reach out to people for extra information and support. Here are some opportunities to help you get started expanding your network!
Get support for your startup idea
Have you got a big idea for a better world? Or are you curious about learning new skills and exploring venture creation? Our award-winning entrepreneurship programme can help you get started with one-to-one support, startup workshops and funding opportunities.
Come along to our Introduction to Enterprise at Sussex event on Tuesday 15 October, 5-6.30pm, where you can meet other students and the staff team. The Big Ideas contest is also back for another year, offering a chance to travel to California and pitch to win £10k in funding!
You can also use CareerHub to book a one-to-one appointment if you’d like to meet a member of the Entrepreneurship Team online or on campus.

Meet employers at the Careers Fair
Careers Fair 2024 is coming up on Wednesday 6 November, 11am-3pm, at the American Express Stadium, Falmer. You’ll need to book a two-hour time slot to attend.
This is your opportunity to browse and speak to over 95 employers from a wide range of sectors offering graduate roles, vacation work, placements, work experience and voluntary positions.
Many employers will be targeting students from any degree discipline, so you can start exploring your options!
Join Sussex Connect

Get involved with your Students’ Union
There are plenty of events, societies and sports clubs to dive into during your time at university, all of which are brilliant ways to meet people and make friends. Read this student blog that shares some of the reasons to join a society.
You could represent the voice of thousands of Sussex students by becoming a Student Rep. Read more about becoming a Rep in another article in this edition of Experience Sussex!
If you’re also interested in learning a language you could check out the Language Café. The café meets weekly during term time to provide a social space for language learners to practise their chosen language, meet other students and exchange cultural information.
Log points towards your Spirit of Sussex Award
The Spirit of Sussex Award (SoSA) is our way of recognising and celebrating your achievements. By taking part in different activities, such as part-time work, societies or volunteering, you can gain points towards either a Bronze, Silver or Gold Spirit of Sussex Award.
For all of the activities mentioned in this article, you can log Spirit of Sussex points and start working your way up to an award level! Once you reach Bronze, Silver or Gold, this will be awarded to you at your graduation.
Log into the platform using your University email and password.
Watch the below Instagram video, where one of our Digital Media Creators chatted to Sussex alumna, Berta Santos – SoSA Gold Awardee and business owner – who shared how taking part in the Spirit of Sussex Award helped her meet new people and boost job applications.
