Are you passionate about making a change, shaping campus life, and representing your fellow students? The Sussex Students’ Union elections are your chance to step up and play a key role in improving the student experience at Sussex.
What is the Students’ Union and how does it work?
The Students’ Union (SU) is an independent organisation run by students, for students. It exists to amplify student voices, advocate for change, and provide opportunities for growth and support. Each year, students elect a team of officers who lead the SU, representing the student body in decisions that matter most, from welfare and academics to community and activities.
The SU is made up of Full-Time Officers — paid representatives working full-time for a year to lead the Union — and Part-Time Officers, who represent specific groups and issues alongside their studies. Together, they ensure the diverse voices of the Sussex community are heard at every level.
What Do Officers Do?
Officers are at the heart of the SU’s work. They:
- Shape policies and advocate for positive change within the university.
- Represent students’ interests to the university and external organisations.
- Work to improve all aspects of student life, including academic support, wellbeing, social opportunities, and sustainability initiatives.
Why Get Involved?
Running for election offers incredible opportunities for personal and professional growth. You’ll:
- Develop skills in leadership, teamwork, communication, and problem-solving.
- Make lasting connections and friendships with other student leaders.
- Leave a tangible impact on campus life and help shape the student experience for years to come.
- Whether you’re passionate about campaigning, student support, or building stronger communities, there’s a role that’s right for you.
