The University was deeply saddened to hear that one of our students was the victim of an alleged racist attack in Brighton last weekend.
Whilst we can’t comment on this case in particular, as it is rightly being investigated by Sussex Police, it is important that everyone in our community knows that we strongly condemn violence and discrimination of any kind. We will do everything we can to assist the Police with their enquiries.
The Vice-Chancellor Adam Tickell commented: “Brighton and Hove is well known to be a tolerant and welcoming city that is proud of its diversity. I’m absolutely sure that the overwhelming response to this incident will be of huge concern and care for our student.
"We must never be complacent about the need to address prejudices that exist in all societies – we will certainly never tolerate such attitudes in our city or on our campus.”
The safety and wellbeing of our students is a priority. We are providing every support possible to our student at this time and would like any student who has any concerns to contact our Student Life Centre on 01273 876767 without delay.
