The University of Sussex has been ranked in England’s top five and the world’s best 80 universities for psychology.
In subject-level tables released yesterday (8 November 2017), the Times Higher Education World University Rankings place Sussex at 79th globally for psychology. Only four English universities rank higher.
The news comes just two months after the University rose two places to 147th in the main THE global league table, securing its top-150 position for the eighth consecutive year.
The University’s large proportion of international students and staff and the global reach of its research also saw it ranked in the world’s top 10 per cent for international outlook.
Adam Tickell, University of Sussex Vice-Chancellor, said in September: “This sends out a strong message to the world that Sussex is a truly global institution. To stay in the world’s top 150 for so long is a fantastic achievement and is testament to our consistently excellent teaching and research. Congratulations to all our staff for the part you have played.”
The rankings were expanded again this year by more than 100 universities, taking the total to 1,102.

The THE World University Rankings are the only global university league tables to judge research-intensive universities across all of their core missions – teaching, research, knowledge transfer and international outlook.
The University is also scoring highly at home, currently ranking in the top 20 of two major UK league tables.
