Ther University will be hosting a free beginner's coding course for all female Sussex University students next term. The course being provided by CodeFirst:Girls - a social enterprise which aims to redress the gender imbalance in the tech sector by training women to learn to code, and in the long term support them to pursue a career in tech. Students on this course will learn to build a website over 8 weekly evening sessions.
The course will be taking place in the Careers & Employability Centre, Library every Thursday night from 6.15-8.15pm, starting on Thursday 1 February for 8 weeks (ending Thursday 22 March). The course is being taught by a team of volunteer instructors, including students from the Computer Science department, and Sam Duthie, a web developer working for MPB, a local company in based in Brighton.
Any female student who is studying full time at the University can apply (students must bring their own laptops). No prior experience of coding is needed. All that is required of students to succeed on this course is a desire and determination to learn.
The deadline for applications is midnight on Thursday 18 January. Successful students will be informed they have a place on the course by Friday 26 January.
