Creators, developers and musicians will gather later this month to pay homage to the might of modular synth during a weekend of talks, demos and performances at the Brighton Modular Meet 2018.
Now in its sixth year, and the third to be held in the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts at the University of Sussex, the Brighton Modular Meet on Saturday 30 June and Sunday 1 July brings manufacturers and enthusiasts together for two days of electronic exploration.
One of the largest events of its kind in the UK, the Meet is curated by Andrew Duff from the School of Media, Film & Music.
It opens on Saturday with a series of workshops at the ACCA, run by electronic noise artist Ewa Justka, analogue video glitch artist Bastien Lavaud, and Tom Whitwell of Music Thing Modular and handmade electronic instrument designers BASTL.
During the afternoon the action moves to Café Plenty in central Brighton for a free event featuring live music until midnight in collaboration with Brighton Modular Sessions, with 25 artists over two stages and Good Things Brewery tap in residence.
Sunday 1 July sees the Modular Meet back at the ACCA, with an open invitation for attendees to bring their synths and show off their setups in the café bar.
The Gardner Tower room and Foyer will feature a dedicated manufacturers and shops area, with demos and kit exhibitions from small independent developers and larger, long-established companies.
The talks and demos will include one by Caitlin, a 10-year-old from Horsham who will be showing off the synth techniques made famous on her popular YouTube channel, The Mad Music Machine. Others demoing kit include Verbos Electronics, and a collaboration between Akai and AJH Synth.
The final day ends with a free after-party at Patterns from 7pm, with DJ Mother (Trilogy Tapes), Ebcidic (Brighton) and Mark Verbos (Verbos Electronics, Berlin) playing live.
