Thirty-nine new vending machines have been installed across campus this term - offering an improved service and the chance to cut down on single-use plastic waste.
LTT vending made a proposal to update the existing vending machines with a focus on newer equipment, better quality coffee, cashless payment and healthier products. Machines have now been replaced with new ones and are consequently offering a new and improved range across campus.
What’s new?
The introduction of cashless payment now means that you don’t need to have change in your pocket in order to enjoy a snack - you can use your card, Apple pay or Android pay.
New and healthier snack choices include gluten-free and vegan options, so brands such as Nature Valley, Goodness Knows and Nakd Wholefoods can now be picked up from the vending machines.
The new products are CQUIN compliant and part of the NHS Healthy Eating initiative, offering more non-carbonated and zero-sugar options across the selection of cold drinks. You can still enjoy your traditional snacks and drinks choices – however, there is the opportunity to try something new and perhaps healthier should you wish.
Media menus on the snack and cold drink machines now allow you to see the nutritional values for each product. This allows you to make more informed decisions on the food and drinks you are consuming - perfect for those wanting to ensure foods fit with specific dietary requirements and nutritional / calorific needs.
For coffee lovers, premium Lavazza Espresso Coffee beans are now the new and improved beans available in the machines. There’s also an option to use your own cup - meaning you can fit reusable cups such as the University of Sussex branded Mug For Life under the dispenser and try to keep single-use plastic waste to a minimum.
In terms of energy usage, the machines have a power-saving mode and class-leading energy efficiency, with EVA EMP A++ rating. In addition, the snacks and cold drinks vending machines are more reliable, with a less than 1 in 10,000 fault rate.
Keep your eyes peeled for the new machines around campus!
