Dear students,
This week we're celebrating One World Week, a chance to enjoy and celebrate the diverse make-up of our community and raise awareness of global issues.
Our University has a long history of multiculturalism and our community includes students and staff from over 160 countries. Since Sussex was created 60 years ago, students have come here from all over the world, not just to study, but also to be part of a shared global community – one where difference and conflict between nations can be put aside. I hope that like me, you all recognise we have more in common than that which we’re told may set us apart.
So I ask everyone during these difficult times to continue to look after each other and show our kindness and support to those members of our community affected by the conflict.
If you have a friend or a classmate affected by the conflict, reach out to them. They may be feeling worried and isolated, and talking to a friend might help.
We know this may be a stressful and upsetting time for some students. If you need to talk, or require practical advice and guidance, our support services are here to help you.

Strike action
Next week, some staff at Sussex are currently planning to take strike action – as Sussex is one of the universities included in nationwide industrial action. In some Schools, most (if not all) classes will be running as normal; in others, there might be some disruption depending on how many staff decide to go on strike. Check the Student Hub for the latest information.
The Education Awards
The Sussex Education Awards are now open for nominations. This is your opportunity to say thank you to members of staff who've made a positive impact on your time at Sussex.
Nominating a Professional Services or Academic member of staff is easy (and they really appreciate it!), visit the Education Awards Nominations webpage.
National Student Survey - final year students
If you're a final year undergraduate student and you haven't completed the National Student Survey (NSS) yet, please do. It takes less than five minutes, and you'll be helping future students all over the country.
For every Sussex student who completes the survey, the University will donate £1 to charity.

If you have experienced or witnessed behaviours such as bullying, harassment or discrimination, please let us know using our Report and Support tool.
Canvas and Panopto
I'm aware some students have been having technical difficulties watching recordings on their Canvas modules. The Technology Enhanced Learning team has now resolved the issue.
Additionally, if you've been having problems logging into Canvas, this might be due to your browser. Safari is no longer supported, so you may wish to change to another browser such as Chrome or Firefox.
If you have any technical problems, please contact IT Services.
The student garden is moving to Northfield
Finally, the student garden is being relocated to its permanent home in Northfield. The new site will be more accessible for all, including wheelchair users.
Members of the student society Roots are currently busy organising the move and they welcome any helping hand who wants to join them.
