Students on campus during Welcome Week
There can be a lot to organise when a new term starts, including making sure you are registered with a doctor and you know where to go if you need help. Read on for updates and use the Student Hub to find more information about health and wellbeing services available to you as a Sussex student.
Register with a local GP surgery
You need to register with a GP surgery near the University as soon as possible, so you can make appointments and receive care when you need it. You can choose to register with any local GP, including the Campus health centre – find your local GP surgery using this NHS tool.
The NHS has more information about getting medical care as a student.
Try the free NHS App
The NHS App is a simple and secure way to access a range of NHS services on your phone or tablet.
In just a few clicks, you can:
-
Get health advice on a range of symptoms and conditions – you might even be able to send your GP a direct message, depending on your GP surgery
-
Order repeat prescriptions, including contraception, and choose a pharmacy to collect your medicines from
-
Check your records, including any routine vaccinations such as MMR
-
Book and manage appointments
-
Register your organ donation decision.
After you download the app on the Apple app store or Google Play store, you need to set up an NHS login to prove who you are. The app then securely connects to information from your GP surgery.
New text messaging service for mental health support
The ‘Shout’ text messaging service is for times when people feel they need immediate mental health support. If you're struggling and want to talk to someone anonymously, text SUSSEX to 85258 for free, confidential support, 24/7.
Online support through Togetherall
Register online with your Sussex email address to access free online mental health support with Togetherall – any time, any day. If you’re struggling to cope, feeling low or just need a place to talk, Togetherall can help you explore your feelings in a safe and supportive environment.
Student Minds
Student Minds is the UK’s student mental health charity. Through their website you can find a range of resources, including Student Space – a hub for support through the uncertainty of student life.
