EcoGo is the University’s very own active and sustainable travel rewards programme, where you earn 'BetterPoints' every time you walk, cycle or take public transport to campus instead of using a car. You can then redeem your points for discounts and offers on campus and in popular shops in Brighton.
Getting involved couldn’t be easier. Just download the BetterPoints App and join other students and staff in taking part in EcoGo. Now is a great time to join, with more prize draws coming up in early 2023.
New users and those who referred a friend during January and February were entered into a prize draw for one of five £20 bar-tabs, which could be redeemed for any item at Falmer Bar or Northfield Bar.
Second-year History student Tobey was one of our lucky bar-tab winners and had this to say about EcoGo:
Congratulations for winning one of the bar-tab giveaways! How have you spent it?
Thank you! I spent it on a lovely dinner (and a couple drinks) at Falmer Bar before an event in Mandela Hall. It was a great start to such a nice evening!
How long have you been using EcoGo and what first convinced you to join?
I only joined EcoGo in January. I’ve been on BetterPoints for longer though, I realised it was a great way to make the most of all my walks and my bus rides to campus now I’m living off-campus, and when I found out Sussex was offering its own scheme, I joined ASAP. I didn’t expect to be rewarded so quickly though!
What benefits have you noticed since joining EcoGo and what are your favourite features?
I enjoy being able to keep track of how much I’m walking, especially seeing my walks around campus stack up. I also love seeing people win all the time, including a couple friends, it makes EcoGo feel so communal.
How has the app helped you to travel more actively and sustainably?
It’s made me more aware of how much I do (or, to start off, don’t) go out walking, so it’s a useful reminder and motivator to go on more walks in my local neighbourhood.
