With the assessment period in full swing, it’s important to remember the benefits of taking time out to unwind and recharge for your mental wellbeing. With that in mind, we took to Instagram to ask the students of Sussex about your ideal study break.
Perhaps it’s because we pulled this article together just before lunch, but food and drink stood out as a major theme from your suggestions. Whether it’s browsing food Reels on Insta, heading to a café for a coffee or a treat, or simply sitting down for a nice cup of tea, making something special out of mealtimes and coffee breaks can be a great way to lift your mood and your energy levels.
Students seem split on whether the ideal break is an active one or something more relaxed. On the one hand, many of you like getting out in the fresh air for a walk or run around campus or on the beach. On the other hand, who doesn’t enjoy a bit of comfort TV or a cosy video game at the end of a long day? Of course, you could always stick a horror movie on and get your heart racing from the comfort of your own sofa!
Finally, more than one of you was keen to point out the benefits of meditation. Whether it’s a mindful moment between study sessions, or half an hour to clear your head at the end of the day, meditation can be a really helpful tool for improving performance and gaining perspective.
So whether you find solace in tantalizing your taste buds, embracing the great outdoors, seeking cosy comforts, or cultivating mindfulness, remember to prioritise your wellbeing and discover the rejuvenating power of a well-deserved study break.
