Last week the University of Sussex hosted almost 180 scholarship students at events on campus. The International Office and Scholarships Office welcomed these students to the Sussex community and celebrated their success at being awarded a scholarship.
A reception on Thursday 5 October celebrated students supported by Chevening, the UK government’s prestigious international scholarships programme. Funded by the Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO), these highly competitive scholarships support students to study at their chosen UK university.
Sussex is frequently the number one choice for Chevening scholars and in 2023 we have welcomed 118 Chevening scholars to a study for a Masters at Sussex. Their courses sit within the:
-
University of Sussex Business School
-
School of Education and Social Work
-
School of Engineering and Informatics
-
School of Global Studies
-
Institute of Development Studies (IDS)
-
School of Law, Politics and Sociology
-
School of Mathematical and Physical Sciences
-
School of Media, Arts and Humanities
-
School of Psychology.
Following a day on campus where the Chevening scholars first met each other, they had an opportunity to meet Professor Robin Banerjee, Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Global and Civic Engagement) and Professor Melissa Leach, Director of IDS.
Another international scholarships event on Friday 6 October brought together 60 Masters students from more than 40 countries. These scholars included those being supported by prestigious scholarship schemes from their home countries, as well as the British Council, World Bank and Sussex scholarships. Professor Robin Banerjee welcomed the scholars to Sussex and congratulated them on being selected.
