UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) is updating its systems and phasing out physical biometric residence permits (BRPs) as evidence of a Student visa and will be moving to an all-digital system with eVisas. This transition will happen over the summer and into the autumn.
You may have noticed that that your BRP expires on 31 December 2024. This is the date that UKVI intends to be fully digital. You can check the validity dates of your Student visa on the original decision letter you received from UKVI when you were granted your Student visa.
UKVI has contacted a number of students across the UK to invite them to make the switch to an eVisa. This is a testing phase, so not all students will be eligible to make the switch just yet. UKVI has a detailed webpage dedicated to this process and you can sign up to receive updates. It will be on this webpage that UKVI will announce when it is open to all.
Please note: do not attempt to switch to an eVisa unless directed to do so by UKVI, either through a direct email or when the process is open to everyone. An attempt to switch before you are eligible to do so could cause issues in the future.
We have detailed information on this and what it means for you on the Student Hub – Your Student visa.
