Ten final year students have won graduation packages worth £150 for taking part in the National Student Survey (NSS). Each prize covers the cost of gown hire, two guest tickets and a basic photography package.
The NSS is an external, UK-wide survey of all final-year undergraduate students, which takes place every year. As you near the end of your degree, it’s an opportunity to tell the world about your time at Sussex.
This year the NSS ran from 29 January until 30 April. All final year students who completed the survey online were automatically entered into a prize draw for 10 graduation packages. Ipsos, which runs the NSS on behalf of the Office for Students, selected the winners at random last month. All the winners have already been contacted with details on how to claim their prize.
This year’s winners are:
- Jurgen Forster (School of Law, Politics and Sociology)
- Jenny Ashley (School of Media, Arts and Humanities)
- Shiting Wang (University of Sussex Business School)
- Jack Lee (University of Sussex Business School)
- Karis Baines (School of Law, Politics and Sociology)
- Phoebe Hoaen (School of Global Studies).
Four other winners, studying in the Schools of Media, Arts and Humanities; Education and Social Work; and Psychology, have asked to remain anonymous.
When asked why he had taken part in the NSS, winner Jurgen Forster said: “I was motivated to speak about my experience, hoping that it would help potential students gain some insight into a student's life.” Jurgen will be taking his mother and brother to graduation.
Jack Lee, who mentioned the free class of 2024 T-shirt as one of his motivations to complete the NSS, is planning to use his guest tickets to take his mum and grandfather, who has recently been diagnosed with Alzheimer's, to his graduation ceremony. “I want to make as many memories with him as possible!” he said.
The University has also donated £1 to charity for every student who took part in the National Student Survey. We will publish more details about the donation once the Office for Students releases the NSS results, which are expected to be published in July.
