Team Sports
If you’ve been inspired by the camaraderie and teamwork on display in Paris, why not join a team sport and experience a similar sense of unity and achievement? At Sussex, we have a variety of team sports that you can get involved in including Football (both 11-a-side to 5-a-side), Basketball, hockey, volleyball and rugby 7s. Planning ahead for Lacrosse’s debut in the 2028 games? Get in training at Sussex and maybe you can even make team GB’s team!
Racquet Sports
With two-time Olympic gold medalist Andy Murray stepping out on the court for probably the final time these games, maybe you’ve decided to overcome similar odds and track down your old tennis racket in the back of the garage.
As well as tennis, you can join our badminton team for fast-paced, competitive matches, or grab a squash racquet in preparation for it’s debut alongside Lacrosse at the 2028 Olympics.
Find hitting the ball with such a large racquet head too easy? Sussex Sport has bookable table tennis tables, so grab a friend and get practicing your pendulum serve.
Water Sports
Water sports are another highlight at Sussex. Dive into competitive swimming with our team or just take advantage of a £1.50 session at local pools.
Rather stay on the water than get in it? Experience the teamwork and endurance of rowing, or take to the seas with our sailing and surfing groups.
Individual Sports
If individual sports are more your style, Sussex has you covered. Hone your precision and focus with our archery team, join our athletics team to show off your track and field skills, or get involved with climbing, golf, or equestrian sports.
Ever tried fencing? Why not follow in the steps of Sussex alumni and former Olympian, Laurence Halsted.
Finally, the Falmer Sports Complex Gym is equipped with four weightlifting platforms, perfect for strength training.
Explore the local area
Fancy seeing a bit of the local area with your exercise? Whether you head out on your own, or join a club, walking (yours doesn’t have to be speed walking), running and cycling area great way to experience everything Sussex has to offer. As you pedal through, draw inspiration from gold medal winning alumnus David Stone who participated at 4 paralympic games in the road cycling and time trial.
Cross country may only have appeared as an Olympic sport for a brief period at the beginning of the twentieth century, but you needn’t let that prevent you from heading out into the South Downs. There, you can also channel your inner Tom Pidcock exploring the scenic mountain bike tracks around Stanmer Park.
Even more sports
Why restrict yourself to those mainstream Olympic sports? Amongst the too-cool-for-Paris sports clubs at Sussex you’ll find Ultimate Frisbee, Netball, and American Football.
