With the days being shorter and colder we are all using more energy —and likely wasting more too. Whether you live on campus or elsewhere, small changes in how you use lights, appliances, and heating can make a big difference in reducing energy use and environmental impact.
Did you know that leaving a single radiator on during the two-week winter break could waste approximately 80 kWh of energy, resulting in 14.72 kg of CO₂ emissions? That’s equivalent to driving 45 miles or the amount of CO₂ one tree absorbs over eight months. Multiply that by the number of radiators on campus, and the impact becomes significant.
Before heading off for the winter break, play your part and complete this quick energy-saving checklist:

Turn down the radiator to the lowest setting by turning the valve clockwise

Switch off lights and lamps and ensure all lights are off when not in use

Unplug devices and appliances – being on standby still draws power so switch off chargers, TVs, speakers, PCs, and other devices at the wall.
