The University has recently welcomed Pete Clarke to the role of Senior Security Manager, an in-house role that advises the Chief Operating Officer and other senior colleagues.
Pete previously worked for Sussex Police, holding senior positions where he specialised in threat and risk assessment and response. At the University he will work with our risk managers and business continuity experts to provide senior leadership with co-ordinated advice on all security matters.
Pete is a member of both the Security Institute and the Chartered Management Institute, and brings a wealth of knowledge to the role. He is already in the process of improving operational security around certain sites on campus, and has been updating our standard operating procedures, response plans and risk registers.
Bringing certain facilities management (FM) roles in-house
Bringing the role of Senior Security Manager in-house is an important milestone for the University. Any significant security issues will now be fed into senior leadership from one source, rather than by various voices across SEF and the wider University.
This is just one example of how Sussex is bringing certain FM roles in-house to provide the University with the level of control and oversight it requires of important FM services. As part of the ongoing process of reprocuring our FM contracts, we will continue to bring certain roles in-house so that the University is able to set strategy, standards and oversee service performance while allowing our FM partner to focus on delivery. For more information, please visit the FM procurement project webpage.
A message from Pete
“I act as the link between the Chief Operating Officer, the University Executive, and the operational security team, managing threat and risk with students’, visitors’ and staff members’ safety at the heart of my decision making. My message for staff and students on campus is simple: if for any reason you don't feel safe on campus, or if you notice someone or something that seems out of place, please contact the Security Centre.”
