Hello, Whether you are spending the summer studying, working, volunteering or caring for others, we hope you are also finding time to rest and recharge. In this update, you will find a round-up of which campus facilities are open over the summer, how you can celebrate Pride at Sussex, and guidance on receiving and understanding your results. We have also included the latest news on sustainability and University services. You may also be aware of the recent events in Israel and Iran. In light of the escalating conflict, the University has contacted all students who have declared either a nationality or home address in these countries, to ensure they are aware of the support available at Sussex. |

Brighton Trans Pride – Saturday 20 JulyBrighton is home to the UK’s first and largest Trans Pride. This year’s Trans Pride march takes place on Saturday 20 July, celebrating trans, non-binary, intersex, and gender non-conforming people. The event welcomes everyone committed to trans equality and inclusion. It is a vibrant, supportive space – full of community, solidarity, and celebration. Pride at Sussex exhibitionPride at Sussex is a new photo and written-word exhibition celebrating LGBTQ+ staff at the University. Running from 17 June to 31 July in the Corner Gallery (Library), the exhibition includes photographs of staff or meaningful places on campus, paired with reflections on what it means to be LGBTQ+ at Sussex. An accompanying Padlet hosts extended reflections alongside the images: The project is led by James Ward-Lee, former Chair of the Trans and Non-binary Staff Network, with support from the LGBTQ+ Steering Group. If you are a student who identifies as LGBTQ+, you can join the LGBTQ+ Society and contact your SU Officers for support. |
Brighton PrideWe welcome current students, staff and alumni to take part in the University’s walking party in the Community Parade. Find out more and register your interest in taking part by 30 June. You can also join Transcend, a student-led Campaign and Network that uplifts the voices and experiences of trans, non-binary and gender non-conforming students at Sussex and beyond. Refugee Week 2025The University of Sussex has a proud and radical tradition of providing sanctuary for academics and students. We remain committed to being a welcoming and safe place for forced migrants, refugees, and asylum seekers. This recognises our commitment to promoting a culture of welcome, safety and inclusion across our campuses and their wider communities, as well as commitment to the City of Sanctuary Charter. Sussex wins national sustainability food awardWe are proud to share that Sussex has won the Sustainability in Education Award at the Public Sector Catering Awards 2025. The award recognises our work on sustainable, nutritious and ethical food choices—such as removing beef from campus menus, promoting plant-based diets, and using local suppliers. It also celebrates the commitment of students and staff who champion food justice and climate action at Sussex. |
Benefits of the new facilities management partnership for studentsFrom 1 July, our new facilities management partner, OCS, will officially join the SEF partnership — bringing with it a range of positive changes to how our campus runs. Sussex has also partnered with Equans, a specialist provider, to deliver a new approach to managing our estate. Together, these partnerships will mean:

University’s new external print service - available nowDue to the closure of the Print Unit on Monday 30 June, the University has arranged a new external print service that students can use with their Sussex email address. Print Marketplace is a UK-wide digital platform developed by the Crown Commercial Service (CCS) to enable public-sector organisations to purchase print from pre-approved suppliers at competitive prices. You can order almost any type of print, from posters to leaflets and flyers. |

Stay up-to-date with the Office for StudentsThe Office for Students (OfS) is the regulator for higher education in England. They regularly share their Student News newsletter with information, events and opportunities for students to contribute to their work. In the most recent edition, they introduce their new Student Interest Board, talk about implementation of their condition on harassment and sexual misconduct, and share other recent activity where we have been working to protect the interests of students. Socially Responsible Investment Policy reviewA group made up of Council members and some senior leaders is currently reviewing and updating the University’s Socially Responsible Investment Policy. The existing policy, originally approved in 2016-17, informs how the University invests its funds. Given changing global contexts and investment opportunities, it was agreed that a review would be carried out to ensure that the policy aligns with our institutional values and remains sector-leading.
