This October, the Sussex Students’ Union is marking Black History Month with two inspiring events that celebrate creativity, entrepreneurship, and community.
The NextGen Entrepreneurship Mentorship, hosted by Eventities and the International Students Committee, launches on Saturday 18 October 2025. The free, two-part mentorship programme is open to Black students with bold ideas and the drive to turn them into thriving ventures.
Participants will develop hands-on skills in personal branding, business development, pitching, and networking, supported by experienced mentors and a community of peers. Those who complete the programme will receive a certificate of completion, and the top ten students will win free exhibition spots at the Sussex Black History Month Trade Fair later in the month.
Taking place on Thursday 30 October in Mandela Hall, the Trade Fair will transform Falmer House into a vibrant marketplace of culture and creativity. Visitors can explore stalls from local Black-owned businesses, student entrepreneurs, and community vendors offering food, fashion, beauty, crafts, art, and music that celebrate African and Caribbean heritage.
The event will also feature the ten finalists from the NextGen Mentorship, giving students the chance to showcase their products and ideas alongside established entrepreneurs.
“It is a core priority for me to support Black student entrepreneurship, create space for community connection, and facilitate the long-term impact of this kind of mentorship initiative,” said Esther Adeyemo, International Students’ Officer.
Both events are free to attend, but registration is required. Students can join the mentorship sessions online or in person at Falmer House, and Trade Fair entry tickets are available now.
