The report commissioned by Social Work England found social work CPD at Sussex to be “a case study of good practice”.
A recently commissioned report by Social Work England reviewing CPD provision for Practice Educators has found social work CPD at Sussex to be “a case study of good practice”.
In parallel, Social Work England – the regulator for all qualifying social work courses in the country – also published a report on their regulatory work to date. Of the 257 social work courses across England inspected to date, all six Sussex qualifying courses were among 48 approved with no conditions.
Report data also suggests that fast-track and part-time courses are becoming more attractive routes for qualifying as a social worker. This is thought to be, at least in part, attributable to the fact that the social work bursary in England has not changed since 2014.
Commenting on this commendation of Social Work courses at Sussex, Dr Reima Ana Maglajlic, Head of the Department of Social Work & Social Care, said:
“This acknowledgement from our regulator is extremely welcome and satisfying and down to the fantastic efforts of the Sussex social work team. In particular, Dr Tam Cane – Social Work CPD Lead, Susana Vazquez - CPD Co-ordinator, Karen Okuefuna-Budd - Director of Practice Learning and Rebecca Stephens - convenor of the Practice Education modules we offer. I also want to thank Dr Henry Smith – Social Work BA course leader, and Professor Julia Sutherland – School Lead for Teaching & Learning, for their incredible hard work and support in launching the new part-time Social Work BA course.”
