The University of Sussex has once again been recognised as the happiest university in the UK, securing the top spot in the Unifresher Happiest Universities 2027 Guide for the second consecutive year.
The ranking reflects our continued commitment to creating a welcoming, inclusive and supportive environment where students feel happy, heard and at home. Building on last year’s success, Sussex has not only retained its number one position for student happiness but we have also strengthened our performance across several other categories.
In the 2027 Unifresher rankings, Sussex is placed 5th overall in the UK, highlighting our strong all-round student experience. We also rank 5th for Freshers’ Week, showcasing our vibrant and welcoming introduction to new students, and 17th for sustainability, reflecting our ongoing efforts to promote environmental responsibility.
Responding to the repeat award, the University’s Director for Student Support & Wellbeing, Craig Lowe said:
“The University of Sussex, Brighton, offers an incredible mix our students really love - a vibrant place with connected global community, set in the stunning South Downs, close to beach and a city full of culture, cuisine, gigs and nightlife. It is fabulous to see so many students arrive, transition and engage will all the opportunities available to help them make the most of their time and potential. Our professional services and faculty teams are dedicated to each student's experience – making it safe and welcoming for all, while preparing students for their next move every step of the way. Choose Sussex and you choose to celebrate a learning and living experience which, for the second year running, is second to none."
