We are carrying out essential upgrades to the Library’s lighting and electrics.
Over 1,500 lights are being replaced with energy efficient LEDs alongside emergency lighting upgrades and study booth lighting enhancements. These changes will make the Library safer, more sustainable and a much better place to study. Here’s everything you need to know.
Once complete, you’ll get:
- Brighter, more comfortable study spaces
- Improved safety through upgraded emergency lighting
- A more sustainable building saving an estimated 84 tonnes of carbon per year – that’s enough to power 64 homes with electricity for a year!
What this means for your study plans
Lighting upgrades will start in the basement and then take place on the Ground Floor. We’re working hard to keep disruption to a minimum, but some impact is unavoidable.
- Some areas will be noisy at times
- Noisy work will be scheduled for quieter times wherever possible
- Clear signage will show which zones are temporarily unavailable
Looking for somewhere else to study? You are welcome to use any University faculty building, the Student Centre, or one of our many campus cafés – and if the weather’s on your side, you can even head outdoors. Visit the Student Hub for a full list of study spaces across campus.
