The University of Sussex has been ranked joint 273rd in the world in the new QS World University Rankings 2027, a rise of five places from the 2026 ranking. The University’s UK ranking is 32nd – a rise of one place. In total, 1,504 global institutions are ranked, from an initial evaluation list of 8,800 institutions, with 93 UK institutions in the final rankings list.
The University is in the top 18% of the final list of the overall world rankings and continues to place in the top 100 globally for Sustainability (86), and top 200 for International Faculty (149) and International Students (171).
Continuing our progress from last year, the University again saw strong rises in Employer Reputation (+68 places) and our Academic Reputation (+27 places). These metrics, which are heavily weighted in the overall ranking, are driven by surveys sent out by QS, for which many staff have provided suggested contacts.
As well as Sussex’s overall UK position improving this year, there is a particularly strong ranking for Employment Outcomes – a rise of two places to 15th in the UK – and the University continues to rank strongly on International Faculty, at 21st in the UK.
Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sasha Roseneil, said: “I am very pleased to see Sussex’s rise in the QS World University Rankings this year. I am particularly encouraged by the continued progress in the employer and academic reputation metrics and I would like to thank those of you who have submitted valuable contacts for these surveys in recent years. Your efforts are greatly appreciated. With all the current political and media focus on graduate outcomes, it is also gratifying to see Sussex’s Employment Outcomes ranking reach 15th in the UK. This is testament to the collective efforts of our academics and our Careers and Entrepreneurship team whose inspirational teaching and dedicated support have expanded our graduates’ minds and horizons, preparing them well for life after Sussex.”

This contributes to the University’s Recovery and Rebuilding strategic plan and highlights the strategic priority to build Sussex’s reputation locally, nationally, and internationally.
