Are you a new student joining Sussex for the 2026-27 academic year?
There are loads of free food events taking place through Arrivals Weekend and Welcome Week, designed to help keep you fuelled for what is always a busy week!
From free breakfasts in the Student Centre, to big brand giveaways outside Eat Central, come along to get a taste of what you’ll be able to find on campus throughout the year.
All food is available on a first come first served basis. We’ve got lots to go around but don’t wait too long!

Arrivals weekend
Thursday 17 September
Fish and chips
Eat Central, 5:30-8:30pm.
If you’re a new international student, come along to Eat Central for a free portion of traditional English fish and chips! Portions will be available on a first-come-first-serve basis, so come down early while stocks last!
Friday 18 September
Eat Central, 5:30-8:30pm
Expect plenty of laughs, audience participation, and exciting prizes as our fabulous host guides you through a fun-filled bingo experience. This welcoming event will be a fantastic opportunity to meet new people, celebrate diversity, and enjoy a memorable night with fellow students. Bao buns will be served from 6pm until they run out.
Saturday 19 September
Eat Central, 5:30-8:30pm
Enjoy a range of Greek-inspired treats while socialising with fellow students in a relaxed atmosphere. Throughout the evening, a professional magician will perform an exciting mix of close-up magic, illusions, and interactive tricks that will leave you wondering how it was done. It's the perfect opportunity to unwind, meet new friends, and enjoy an evening full of surprises. Free food will be available for as long as stocks last.
Sunday 20 September
Eat Central, 5:30-8:30pm
Sample a selection of delicious Caribbean dishes while enjoying a welcoming and social atmosphere. After dinner, sit back and enjoy performances from talented comedians who will provide an evening of laughter and entertainment! Free food will be available for as long as stocks last.
Welcome week
Free breakfasts
Fancy a free breakfast to start your day? From Monday 21st to Friday 25th September, new students can get a free breakfast at the Student Centre. Porridge (with toppings!) will be available from 9am-10am, for as long as stocks last.
Free samples from big brands
Sussex Uni Food will also be giving away lots of free food and drink from well-known brands across welcome week. Head down to Eat Central between 11am-3pm every day from Monday 21st to Thursday 24th September to see what’s on offer. All the products will be available to buy on campus throughout the year!
