To kick the new year and assessment period off to a cracking start, our catering partners have shown their support to students by giving away 1,000 free healthy breakfasts earlier this month, to keep students energised and help them start the assessment period on the right foot.
Students who visited Eat Central on a morning between 7-15 January could show their ID card and grab a free breakfast bowl courtesy of Sussex Uni Food (SUF). They crafted the perfect bowl, choosing from a yoghurt/dairy-free alternative, or chia pudding base, with toppings like super green or coconut granola, fresh fruit, seeds, and a drizzle of their favourite sauce of either peanut butter or honey, finished off with a scope of acai sorbet!
With options accommodating for a wide range of dietary preferences, the breakfasts were a huge success and, with 1,000 students making the most of the offer, the bowls ‘sold’ out within seven days – an average of 142 per day! The most popular day was last Friday with 209 bowls given out.
Sasha Wilson, Psychology UG student, said: “Thank you for these free breakfast bowls. Great idea to plan around our exams when we don’t have enough time to prepare a nutritious breakfast in the morning. My breakfast bowl was really tasty and a good way to start the day!”
Executive Chef, Mike King, said: “We are delighted to have provided 1,000 free breakfasts to students taking their exams. It’s one less thing for them to worry about during this stressful and important time. By offering a healthy, hassle-free meal to start their day, we hope to have supported them in performing their best. This initiative has brought great pride to our team.”
Senior Catering Services Manager, Liz De Cort, said: “I’m so pleased our catering team were able to support the exam period with 1,000 free breakfasts which hit the mark with our students!”
