Towner Eastbourne is hosting the Turner Prize 2023, the world’s leading prize for contemporary art, and the University of Sussex is Education Partner.

Established in 1984, the Turner Prize is awarded to a British artist for an outstanding exhibition or other presentation of their work in the previous twelve months. The Prize aims to promote public debate around new developments in contemporary British art.

The exhibition of the shortlisted artists is being hosted at Towner Eastbourne, running from September 28 2023 to April 14 2024.

Turner Prize 2023 winner

We would like to congratulate Jesse Darling, who has won the Turner Prize 2023. Darling picked up the award and £25,000 at a ceremony held in Eastbourne’s Winter Gardens on 5 December 2023. Nominated for his solo exhibitions ‘No Medals, No Ribbons’, his winning installation at Towner Eastbourne explores borders, bodies, nationhood and exclusion.

Events on campus

We have been bringing the Turner Prize to life for students on campus. We held a series of ‘in conversation’ events at the Attenborough Centre for the Creative Arts (ACCA) throughout the autumn term. Stay tuned for more events coming up in May 2024 as part of the University of Sussex Festival of Ideas.
