Lottie: Hi there, I'm Lottie and if you're a University of Sussex undergraduate offer holder, you're invited to join our Unibuddy communities.
Communities is a space where you can get to know other offer holders studying the same course as you or living in the same halls, talk to current students and ask the many questions you may have, get to know the city of Brighton and Hove, as well as keep up to date with new events and deadlines all in one space.
If you have received an offer from the University of Sussex, you'll be sent an email inviting you to join Communities, usually within a week or so of the offer being sent out. If you haven't received an email inviting you to join Communities, please email ug.enquiries@sussex.ac.uk and we can help.
Once you've logged in, click the explore tab and join our welcome group to get started. There's lots of other groups you can join too and you can even create your own groups. You can also find updates and reminders about upcoming events in our updates tab and direct message people through the people tab. Speak soon.
How to access communities
You can access Communities on desktop or through the Unibuddy app, available on both iOS and Android. Follow the instructions below to get started.
1. If you’ve received an offer to study with us you will also receive an email from the University of Sussex via Unibuddy inviting you to join our Community. Click the purple ‘Join Now’ button to sign up and get started.
2. Once you’ve logged in, click on the Explore tab, scroll down to ‘Groups’ and join our ‘Welcome’ group to start chatting with other offer holders. You can join as many groups as you’d like, or even start your own.
3. If you’re having trouble accessing Communities, or if you haven’t yet received an email inviting you to join (please note, an invite will typically be sent out within 1-2 weeks of your offer going out) then please get in touch with us at ug.enquiries@sussex.ac.uk and we’d be happy to help.
Are you already a Community user, perhaps at another university? You can log in as an existing user with the same details, go to your profile picture in the top corner, and click or tap ‘switch Community’, to see all the student Communities you’re a part of. You can also view our rules of conduct.
Parents and carers
We have a Community for you too - open to everyone with a young person interested in applying to Sussex. You can chat with other parents and carers, and members of staff who are there to answer your questions about housing, admissions, student finance and preparing your child for independent living.
Join the community for parents and carers.
Rules of conduct
When you’ve joined your community you’ll be asked to follow the rules listed below to ensure everyone can enjoy the community safely. Failure to meet the rules below may result in being blocked or banned from communities.
- Be kind and courteous. Please treat everyone with respect and create a welcoming environment. Healthy debates are natural, but kindness is required.

- No hate or bullying. Make sure that everyone feels safe. Bullying of any kind is not tolerated. Personal attacks, inflammatory remarks, profanity, or degrading comments about race, religion, culture, sexual orientation, gender, or identity will not be tolerated.
- No promotions or spam. Give more to the groups than you take. Self-promotion, spam and irrelevant links are not allowed.
- Respect everyone’s privacy. Being part of these groups requires mutual trust. Authentic, expressive discussions make group conversations great, but they may also be sensitive and private. So please think twice before you post any personal information. We will act if we see anyone violating these guidelines.
