The University, in close consultation with the Students’ Union has now agreed with Council (its governing body) a new range of on-campus accommodation rents for 2018/19 – and they are published below.
The new rents will be outlined on the University’s online housing pages from September, so as not to confuse incoming students currently applying for accommodation for the upcoming year during the summer months.
As with previous years the University has focused on providing quality and affordable accommodation on campus at a range of price points and has retained the same proportion of lower cost rents as the opening of the new East Slope residences approaches, which will open in phases between 2018-2020.
Commented Dean Spears, Head of Housing; “We’re really pleased to be able to offer our students a range of accommodation options, while ensuring that we retain a good proportion of lower cost rooms. It’s been really good to work through this with the Students’ Union elected officers and we will continue to discuss our housing plans with the Students’ Union.”
The University offers qualifying students with a £2,000 funding package, known as the First Generation Scholars Scheme (FGS) that many use towards their accommodation. Last year 62% of those students who qualified for the scheme used the funding towards upgrading their accommodation preference, representing over a £3.5M investment by the University.
Dean continued: “Our housing team both on campus and at our Lewes Road shop are here to help all our students with their housing needs every step of the way.”
The University has made a commitment to allow more students to benefit from accommodation on campus and as such building work for the new student village is now underway.
