48 members of the University of Sussex were awarded Student Led Teaching Awards (SLTAs) at the Annual Teaching and Learning Conference on 15 May.
Academic and professional services staff were recognised across six categories including:
- Outstanding or Innovative Teaching;
- Outstanding or Innovative Undergraduate Teaching;
- Outstanding or Innovative Postgraduate Teaching;
- Outstanding or Innovative Assessment and Feedback;
- Outstanding Support for the Learning Experience of Students;
- Outstanding Professional Services Support for the Learning Experience of Students.
The Student Led Teaching Awards are a partnership between the University of Sussex and the Students’ Union. The awards provide an opportunity for students to say thank you to a member of staff who has made a difference to their teaching and learning experience at Sussex. All students are eligible to nominate an academic or member of the professional services. Students’ Union Officers and Student Representatives are responsible for deciding which staff should receive an award based on the nominations.
Nominations for the Student Led Teaching Awards have continued to increase each academic year, with more than double the nominations in 2017/18 since the awards began in 2013/14.
Professor Rorden Wilkinson, Deputy Pro-Vice-Chancellor (Education and Innovation), said: ‘The Student Led Teaching Awards mark an important moment in the academic year. It is a time when our students celebrate what they have found most inspiring, and reward colleagues for their dedication and enthusiasm in making the student learning experience so rich.
"Reading the many warm comments we received with the nominations is genuinely humbling. Our students have been moved by their education, and our colleagues rightly recognised for their commitment and dedication."
Professor Wilkinson presented the awards at the Annual Teaching and Learning Conference on 15 May.
